ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the concerned officials of Punjab Board of Revenue and police department to share the balance amount of compensation of Rs1,68,000 and pay to an affected family of Okara.
The case was heard by a three member bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
The suo motu was taken on application of Ghulam Fatima resident of District Okara in which she had alleged about highhandedness of police department against her family members due to which they suffered and were declared absconders.
The case was disposed of with direction to Tariq Yousaf Ex-Member (Colonies) to calculate the share with the assistance of DPO, Okara within a period of 15 days which should be paid to victim's family.
DPO, Okara stated that his subordinates had registered FIRs against the family of the petitioner but when he received Court's notice he got the FIRs cancelled.
He further apprised that police had already paid an amount of 100000 rupees in this regard.
The Chief Secretary Government of Punjab had conducted investigation on Court's directive while the District Judge Okara was asked to calculate losses suffered by the complainant and her family on account of the police harassment and illegal action.
The Chief Secretary Government of Punjab conducted the inquiry and fixed the responsibility on some officers of Board of Revenue, whereas District & Sessions Judge, Okara calculated the losses i.e Rs.1,68,000/-.
The responsible were of the view that action should not have been taken by them but it happened on account of improper assistance from the department.
Tariq Yousaf Ex-Member (Colonies), Senior Officer placing himself at the mercy of the Court stated that in view of the peculiar circumstances of this case all the officers/officials might be exonerated however, they were ready to pay their share of losses assessed by the District and Sessions Judge, Okara.
